Learn Samba, Contemporary, and Orixa Afro-Candomble Rhythms from a master teacher tuition free!

Mondays 6:30pm - 8:30pm | 12 weeks beginning April 13, 2026 - June 29, 2026 @ BAMBU Pharm in West Oakland (1 block from West Oakland BART)

Dive into a 12-week series learning the living rhythms of Salvador, Bahia with Mestre Marcos Odara, a Master percussionist, singer, visual artist, and cultural bearer rooted in the sacred Orixá traditions of Candomblé. This class invites you to experience the heartbeat of Brazil—its ancestral roots and spiritual depth—through rhythms passed down through generations.

Ideal for committed students with some musical background, yet not required. Some drums provided, or bring your own.

Born in Salvador, Bahia, Marcos Odara is a percussionist whose journey began at age six, entering the spiritual house of Candomblé at 14, and by 16 was immersed in the sacred rhythms of the Orixás through ceremony, family, and daily practice. Guided early by street percussionist Zoinho, Marcos went on to spend 16 transformative years between Brazil and Italy, expanding his craft through Latin jazz, salsa, African rhythms, and contemporary European music. Today, he carries forward the authenticity of his Afro-Brazilian roots as a dedicated percussionist and cultural bearer.
